My name is Vern Klassen-Wiebe. I am a teacher at Sister MacNamara School in Winnipeg. We are doing a project on Indigenous reconciliation, houses, and homelessness. I know my students are grade 1 and so can't enter this contest but they were so excited about writing about home and "entering" the contest that I thought I would send you the poem that they wrote as a class. It would be great if you could send a written response to them to show them that their writing has real-world impact. They would love to know that someone had read their poem. Here it is: Happy and fun! Octopus and oranges - funny food! Mom helper and cleaner. Enough room to grow! Thank you for your generous spirit and I hope this entry doesn't mess up your contest. The students really enjoyed writing it and just want others to read their writing.
