The Meaning of Home

Home is very special to me. After a hard day doing challenging math, science and PE, I can come home to paradise with games, toys and food! But, my parents are most definitely the best part of home. They play with me, they read with me, and I cook with them. I would love to share two stories about my home and what it means to me. My first story is about how my family owns a cottage on Healey Lake. The cottage does not have water or internet or cable TV. Why am I telling you this? Because the meaning of home is not all of the stuff you have, but the people that you share it with. The reason that the cottage is so amazing is because I get to spend 24/7 with my family - we go fishing, swimming, and we cook together. My happiest memories are of being up at the cottage with my entire family. My home is special because we are all together. My second story is about how I became Type 1 Diabetic 4 days before my 10th birthday. Everything changed. My diet and drinks changed. Before, if I wanted a snack - I could go into the fridge and grab my favourite snacks like mangoes and pickles. I had to get a needle 4 times a day, so I could be safe. Now that I am diabetic, home is extra special for me because my parents keep me safe. They have my meds, they watch my numbers, they calculate every meal so I get the right amount of insulin. All my new favourite snacks and drinks are at home. My home is special to me because it is the safest place on earth. Thanks! -Luka
