The Meaning of Home

When you look around your home, what do you see? You may see furniture, and all sorts of things. Things that belong to you. Or maybe they don’t. What do those things remind you of? If you haven't caught on, memories. Memories are a big thing to make a home, so is family. And lastly feeling at home. I’d say I've had my fair share of homes, so let me tell you what really makes a home for me. Firstly, memories are an important thing to make a home for me. When I look around, I want to think of all the good times I’ve had. Recently, I moved houses. At first, it felt like being in any ordinary house. But after a while, my new house finally started to feel like a home. Can you guess why? I made new memories. Memories don’t have to be a massive thing. A memory can be as small as remembering a laugh you had with your family, or a present you got from a friend. Secondly, my home wouldn’t be a home without the people in it. My family is one of the most important parts of my home. For example, I recently went to a trip to my parents' home country. It was the first time I'd been there. During the trip, I went to a lot of places and events. I went to a countless amount of people's homes. At the end of the day, the only place I felt comfortable was my family’s home. Now I didn’t even know my way around the place, but I felt most at home where my family was. Lastly, home is a feeling. Home feels recognizable. When you’re home, you know you’re home. After a long day, the place that pops up in your head and you think “that is where I want to be right now.” That’s your home. When you get home, you get sort of a sense that feels right. You get to do what you want. You’re not told what to do or feel criticized. In conclusion, what I hope you take from this is that home looks different for everyone. But it feels the same.
