Meaning of Home
I taste
Home. A place where I can sit at the dinner table and taste my mom's homemade pho and my dad's famous delicious chicken, as the scent of seasonings fill the air. The smiles on our faces as we laugh together while the bright sun shines on our faces. I'm safe.
I touch
Home. The neighbourhood I have grown up in and one day will be known as my childhood home. While falling onto the soft grass of my front yard looking up in the sky and imagining being surrounded by glass winged monarch butterflies while feeling the flowers around me. I'm free.
I hear
Home. The city I know. The birds chirping while walking down the Windsor riverfront with my family while looking at Detroit's astonishing buildings across the clear waters, hearing the gushing waves hit the bottom of the floorboards. I'm loved.
I smell
Home. The province I was born in and know with my Windsor blood. Smelling the fresh water, building memories with family and friends, watching the sun rise with my loved ones. All the things that make home, closing my eyes and remembering all the good times until I can smell them. I'm happy.
I see
Home. The country that makes me feel safe. As I see maple syrup and crystal clear water, I right away feel safe at home. Seeing the snowflakes falling onto the ground, as moose and geese roam the fields. I am Canadian.
Earth. Earth is one place I will never forget, as well as the 8 billion other people who live on Earth as well. The Earth is the one and only place I will ever be safe in. Not Mars, not Jupiter, not Saturn and especially not the sun. Earth makes me feel safe, free, happy, and proud to be in one of the Earth's countries....Canada.
I am thankful for the Habitat for Humanity for building homes for people in need and helping them have a place to call home and have a roof over their heads.
Thanks for letting kids have the opportunity to help those in need.
