Home is not just one place

“The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave and even better to come back,” said Wendy Wunder. I personally have been to many different homes, some in different provinces, and even in different countries. Each was a bit different, but I still love them all the same. I am at home in a duplex with my mom, dad, and my little brother, right next to the ocean, and this is what I love about my home. The smell of my mom’s cooking. The sound of my dad’s laughing when we play Halo. Watching football with my family, and cheering on my dad's team. Seeing everyone getting along, that is what I believe home is in our house. I am at home in my neighborhood. Walking on the pebble beach next to my street. Tasting the strawberry ice cream that I get at Fisherman's Cove. looking at the bright pink sunset in the summertime with my family. Shooting the basketball at the highschool with my dad. Going to the baseball field and throwing the ball. This is what home means in my neighborhood of Eastern Passage. I am at home at school. Playing street ball with all of my friends outside at recess. All of my friends make me laugh. Learning interesting things about animals in science class. Trying to find objects in the eye spy books when my class is in the library. Going to practices with the school basketball team. School is definitely one of my homes, because it is so fun to be with my friends. I am at home at my grandfather’s house. Sitting next to my grandfather's warm stove. Listening to my family talking about sports. Playing basketball outside in the backyard, and hide n seek in the woods. Petting his small fluffy dog. Eating a huge supper with all of my family. Walking down from my grandfather’s house and snorkeling in the ocean. Even though it is a bit far away my grandfather's house is warm, safe and loving and that is why it is a home for me. I am at home in England. My grandmother showing me her blackberries in her backyard. Going to a really nice restaurant and having fish and chips. Going to lush green parks, and swimming in the lakes. Sliding down ziplines from the trees in treetop trekking. Watching some fun movies in my grandmother's living room. Even though I do not live there, I still love it very much, and that is why England is one of my homes. I am at home in Canada. The smell of the sea around me, the cool air blowing through me. Going to beaches and exploring the wildlife, walking in a forest with the red and orange leaves. Tasting fresh maple syrup from the maple tree. Roasting hotdogs and hamburgers on the barbeque. Kayaking through a long and quiet river with my father. Watching the birds make their nests, and the squirrels running around. Walking on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. Feeding the birds at Shubie Park. This is why Canada is my home. What do all my many and very different homes have in common? Well I feel safe from danger, safe from the cold, and safe from hate. They all are loving and caring and that is truly why there is no place like home.
