A Place Called Home
My heart is beating fast and my feet are pounding as I run as quickly as I can!! A place I thought was home was now just a house. The people I thought were family are now just people. Days go by and I’ve been living on the streets begging for food. I’m so embarrassed. These streets are starting to look familiar, and that's what terrifies me most. I hear someone call my name “Amelia, where are you?” I recognize that voice. It's Leo. He's been looking out for me. He found a place where we could stay for a while. I agree and follow him. This place was an actual house. I haven't been to this type of place in forever! I realize how much I miss having a home and a family. I know I have to see Habitat for Humanity. The following day Leo and I head over to Habitat for Humanity. They agreed to build a house, no matter how much time it takes. Leo and I would finally have a home. We agreed to scrape together some money to buy a suit for Leo. Strangely, I found a $5 bill in my sock! It was a little stinky. Leo needed to look good if he was going to get a job. The Suit did it !!! He was offered the job. A year later we were living in our home not a house. Now I have family, MY FAMILY, not just people. We knew there were so many others like us that still needed a home. These days we help where possible by giving shelter and donating food. I know it doesn’t compare to how lucky I am to have a home full of love, but maybe it helps.
