There’s No Place Like Home
A home isn’t just four walls and a roof, it’s made of family, trust, and love. A home is a place where you feel welcome, feel comfortable being yourself, feel respected, and loved by the people around you. Home is the place you want to be after a long day.
Everyone needs a home. To a butterfly, a cocoon is home until it grows its wings. To a bird, her nest is her home where she raises her chicks until they learn to fly. A mother’s womb is home to a baby where it is protected and nourished for nine months. To a soldier who is fighting in a war, his country is his home, which he is protecting at all costs. Home is strength, home is shelter, home is comfort, and home is pride.
To me, home is the sound of my family chatting and laughing at the dinner table at night and my grandpa snoring happily on the couch. Home looks like my pet fish swimming peacefully in his fish tank. Home tastes like burgers grilled on our backyard barbecue on hot summer evenings with my family. Home smells like sunny yellow lilies and bright pink roses growing in my backyard in the summer. Home makes me feel secure when my parents tuck me into my bed at night after a long day.
I am grateful for my home because I have a roof over my head, good food, and a family who loves me and who I love just as much. Everyone deserves a home like mine where they feel comfortable and have a stable place to grow. I believe that Habitat for Humanity should build more homes like mine for everybody who needs one.
