Home in the Wild

Some people think that having four walls and a roof over your head is home, but I disagree. Some people think that their house is home because they have screens and feel comfortable with a roof over their head. They believe that having shelter and stuff is truly home. With cell phones everywhere, people don’t pay attention to all the beautiful nature that we are so lucky to have. Most people spend time inside on screens and forget how it feels to be out in the wild. For me, I feel the safest with a warm rainforest breeze and leaves crunching under my feet. No shelter, just me and the forest. Some people feel at home with toys and screens, but I feel at home among the trees. Some people feel better when they are warm and safe. I find it better to be free. I feel the most at home with the sound of crashing waves, surrounded by trees, and seeing animals that roam around me. This is because I feel most safe and comfortable in the wilderness. It is difficult to find patches of greenery untouched by human hands, but something inside me clicks when I'm alone in nature. I’m disconnected from everyday life, but connected to the beauty around me. Last summer my dad and I hiked down to mystic beach and we spent the night there. The sunset was beautiful; It was the most wonderful one I have ever seen. It was amazing to witness all the nature and to be in such a wonderful place. Even though I was not alone, that was the closest to being truly home I will ever feel.
