A Family Makes a Home
When I ponder the word home, I think of my warm bed on a cold winter night. I think of the delicious smell of warm cookies when I get home from school. I think of the games I play with the friends I have. I think of the love and the kindness I feel. I think of game nights I have with the friends and the family I love. I think of my loving family and the bad jokes they tell. I think of the fun that I've had and the parties I’ve had. I think of the highs of life and try to forget the lows.
I have two homes. At my mom's house, we have a dog and a cat. We play board games and my friends come to hang out. At my dad's house, we speak Korean and Japanese and our favourite meal is black bean noodles. Both are home to me.
When I think of a house I think of an empty room, a lifeless place just waiting for memories to be made and fun to be had. In all that darkness there is a light of opportunity. An opportunity to make a house a home. I thank Habitat for Humanity as they give so many people a place they can call home and I will forever be grateful for that.
