If Home Were The Five Senses
If home were a sight, it would be the most elegant mountains on the horizon, as pretty as a picture, and the lime green trees brightening with enchantment.
If home were a sound, it would be the laughter around the dining table, and the sound of munching food made by my mother, with all her love into it. We all smile gracefully.
If home were a smell, it would be the aroma of the butteriest popcorn I've ever had filling the air.
If home were a taste, it would be the soft, blistering chocolate chip cookies right from the oven and the taste of delight sliding down my throat.
If home were a touch, it would be the coziest blankets you have ever touched, full of ease, as soft as a marshmallow, on the coldest winter nights.
Home isn’t just a place where you see doors, windows, walls, ceilings all over the room, it is a place where you lay underneath the blazing fireplace, where you have had ups and downs. A place where you make new memories and remember the memories in the past. You may move homes a couple of times but it is your journey! It's like where you're jumping from a lilypad to lilypad to lilypad. Home is where you are yourself, where you're happy. It is a place where you are shielded from rain and snow.
I am grateful for Habitat for Humanity for building houses for people who don’t have homes. I hope homelessness will end, and everyone will have a place like home, just like mine.
