Meaning of Home

This essay will focus on the importance of a home to any age. I will mainly focus on the home aspect, but I will also dabble in the concept of just a house. The home is usually not thought of much. If thought of at all, it is generally just a house to some people. The ancient Greeks understood this well because Hestia, the Greek goddess of the home, is generally depicted as a kind and gentle being. The first home a kid ever lives in will usually be remembered; sometimes fondly, other times not so much. I think the home has a big effect during childhood and after. Therefore the home is very, very important but sadly overlooked. Just like Hestia is overlooked as she does not have a throne among the other Olympians. The word house, though generally thought to be the same thing, could not be more different than the home. One’s home is somewhere where we feel comfortable. On the other hand, a house is simply a shell, walls and windows not a place that people feel is permanent. The house is just a place you go when the work day is done. An unsafe, unhappy or abusive home is a terrible thing and can cause so many problems at work, at school and in the mind. For people to fulfill their full potential, they need to be generally happy, upbeat, joyus. Simply in a good mood. They can’t be those things if they feel unsafe in their home. This concludes the essay.
