The Meaning of Home

To feel safe in a home you don’t need a super fancy house. Family is the one that will protect you. When I walk to my home from school, my dad gives me a hug and my brother says hello and my cousin says hi. If it’s just a wave or a hi or a smile it still makes me feel safe. Not everyone has a home or a family, but I hope they have someone to feel safe with. Every time I don’t feel safe, I start to panic, but at home my brother, dad and cousin all hug me so I feel safe. Here is 5 ways to feel safe at home: 1. Brighten your surroundings. 2. Fix the creaks and groans in your house so you feel more comfortable in your home. 3. Leave a light on in a dark room just so when you look at your jacket you don’t get scared. It is okay to feel scared in the dark at any age and you shouldn’t have to feel embarrassed! 4. Draw the curtains! Or buy some curtains that are dark unless you like white. Any color is okay, its your choice. 5. Keep the area outside your house well lit. What if I do those things and they don’t work? The very first step is to recognize that safety does indeed exist and that you are deserving of it. Think about the moments when you have felt safe and write about them. When you are feeling frightened, turn to your journal and focus on it. For example, if you are feeling scared or mad just go somewhere where you can lay down and think of a memory that makes you feel relaxed and warm like laying on the beach and allow it to flow into your fears. Be aware that we all have different parts of us inside. These parts become fragmented and don’t connect when you are not feeling safe. When you are feeling scared, look inside and find which part is being triggered when you do write about what you feel and how you would like to express it. Once you find your place of wisdom and caring parts have them communicate reassuring, loving messages. It is important to get enough sleep, eat well, exercise regularly also to socialize to. Discover what unconditional love really means and apply it to yourself, accepting that you are not perfect and that is OK and that no one is perfect. Seek out psychotherapy to help face, work through and heal and if this worked then that’s good. I feel safe at my home and if this helped then that’s good. This speech was supposed to help you feel safe at your own house and make you more comfortable. There is a bunch of ways to feel safe. That’s what I do, I love my family. A house does not have to have a lock to feel safe or a weapon. For me safety is home and family and love. Have a good day.
