The Feeling of Home

My home lives, it breathes, It is made from sweet memories, Of joy and sadness, of laughter and sorrow, Of peace for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Of beloved pets, and of cherished toys, Of loving friends and of days filled with joy. Home is where I can be myself, Not worrying about anyone else, I can run and dance and sing and play, Cherishing each and every day. Each home has a unique appearance, Mine is filled with books, board games and dance. My mom is reading while I play piano, My dad’s with my sister, building a fort out of snow. It is the family inside that makes it truly a home, Without them, it’d feel empty and alone. I am writing this poem so that one person may live With a roof over their head, and protection from the wind. Everyone deserves a home, no matter how rich or how poor. That’s why I am writing this, and one thing’s for sure: When we all work together, giving bit by bit, Building brick by brick, We can make a big difference, Building a house for those less fortunate. I hope this poem reminded you, We are so lucky, Not everyone has a place to stay, And that’s why Habitat for Humanity, Has made this little contest - to encourage us all, To show kindness to others, big or small, And to never forget, That to have a roof over your head, Is a great privilege that not everyone gets. So think today, Of those out in the cold, With no place to go, and no one to hold. They need our help, Now more than ever, To get them through this, We must all work together.
