Why My Home Is Not Just A House

Hi! My name is Kate and this is what home means to me. First, when I think of home I think of the feeling that I have. When I am at home I am peaceful and happy. It is hard to put into words because when I do it makes it feel less important. It is peaceful and happy because when I am at home there is a feeling of harmony and I know that I am safe. Next, at home, I am surrounded by people who love me. What I mean is that I know I am with people who care and will understand me. I can talk to people in my home and I know that I won’t be judged. For example, at home, if I had a bad day I can go home and talk to someone, and after I am calm I know they were listening and care. Finally, home is somewhere that I can call my own. At home I have my family, my things, my room. I know that some people have to move and can never really call somewhere their home and can never really settle in. I have lived in the same house my entire life which I am very grateful for. Lastly, I can go home and know I am going back to my safe space. Home can mean anything to anyone. It can make you feel happy or incredible. It can be big or little. You just need to know that home is somewhere you can go to from anywhere or at any time and feel loved and accepted.
