My Home Story

My humble home is a fair size, in a neighborhood full of fair sized homes. To be honest, my house is big enough for our needs and necessities. To make things better, I am right diagonal to my friend. I’ve got everything I need (and want), and everyone else should too. I was born in Dubai, on 1/11/11. Funny date, huh? I came in early. It was originally supposed to be 11/11/11! I was raised in an apartment for 6 full years, and grew to think I’d live in my little apartment for my whole life. I was young, okay? Then, on January 15th, 2017, something different happened. Before I knew it, we were on a plane to Canada. On December 17th, 2017, my life changed fully. I moved from one side of the world to another. From Dubai, U.A.E, to Richmond Hill, Canada. We moved into my grandparents house for a few weeks, waiting for the sale to go through to my potential new home. It was really fun, but really new. Back then, I’d only been to Canada once or twice, and that was for 1 or 2 weeks each. I never really been this close to my grandparents, for this long. I couldn’t exactly believe it. It was fun to be living in a house with four other people (but I was the only child), but quickly I started missing my friends. On January 10th, 2018, the sale went through. About a day or two after, we went to see the house. It was pretty nice, perfect for three people. I never really remembered moving into a house. When I was young, I lived in a different apartment, then we moved to Motor City, then to Canada. There were boxes everywhere in our new house. It was pretty hard to walk around in. Then, I think a couple of days later, we moved into our new house. It was emptier than I last saw it. And shorter, or that was just me. I probably grew a couple inches, and well, the time before, I was bored, so I didn’t really pay attention to the house. We went back to my grandparents’s house, because the whole odyssey wasn’t finished yet. We still had to wait for our stuff to arrive. I was like, “AW! COME ON!” because I was excited to move in. A bit later, we went to Macleod’s Landing Public School, the nearest school to our new house. We were all moved in. New house? Check. Everything here? Check. New bed? Check. Snuggling Poplio, my huge oversized stuffed dog? I think so… let’s just say Check. Also, School? Check. We were ready to face the new country. Back then, I often missed my friends Hayden, and my new friend, Joe. I made friends with Joe, then moved to Canada. How brutal. It was pretty boring. I just watched Peppa Pig. Then, I finally met my neighbor, Ryan. He was 4 or 5 years old then. We instantly snapped. We were best friends forever. To have a friend is a wonderful thing, especially if you’re to be new and the first to greet me. In early 2021, my grandparents decided to move out of their small apartment into a huge house, and I mean monstrous. A literal shack, it is. But, as it’s so big, it took a while to get the house. By April-June, they had gotten the house. It was really empty, which made the house only seem bigger. It had two staircases leading up stairs, one spiral leading straight up, one leading to the Family room, with an extra small staircase leading to the top floor. I was surprised at how big it was, and how they could afford it. But that passed, as I remembered that they owned multiple companies in one. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Home is a precious thing. Many take it for granted. And they are confused. Home is not the location. It’s where you live, grow up, experience pain and joy. Home is inside you. Home is right in the middle of your chest, in your parents, in your friends, in wherever. Home is not a house. Houses are types of homes. Like I said, Many take it for granted. We do our living inside shelter, we often forget that people don't have homes in the thousands. People from north, east, south, and west don’t have homes from Russia to Czech Republic. Everyone deserves a home. Many people don’t have homes because of their culture, or their descent. Some people don’t even because of their skin color! Another harsh and racist way to discriminate black people and asians. Everyone deserves a place they can call home. I am content that Habitat for Humanity helps people.
