Meaning Of Home

What does being at “Home” make you think of? What does “Home” truly mean to you? In my opinion, home is a place where I feel most welcomed, loved and comfortable. “Home” should be a place where you can do what you like the best, and be who you are. “Home” doesn’t always have to be with the ones you love. Anywhere could be your “Home”, even if that means being separated from the things you love. I lived in South Korea for half of my life. When I was 5, both my parents were always working late hours and I can always remember our family gathering together when it was Lunar New Year, and having the best time of my life. I always thought that “Home” stands for being with your family , but come to realize now, the word “Home” doesn’t always mean that.. Many people believe that in order to have a “Home”, it must mean being together with your parents or family members, because many people have a person near them who always gives them happiness when they are with you. But for me, the place that made me feel the most loved was always where my parents were. When I turned 7, I went to school for the first time. Everything was new, and it felt like a whole new world. After a while, the meaning of “Home” began to change for me. I felt happy when I was with my family, but I was always laughing and having fun when I was with my friends too. The meaning of “Home” started getting confusing because at that time, I thought home had to be just one certain thing. I would always feel myself comforting around my friends, but I could always tell my family about my secrets that no one else knew. I couldn’t decide which one could be “Home” for me at the time. Later on when our family moved here to Canada, I started to realize more about what “Home” truly is. For the first time, I learned how to speak English, and learned many new things about Canada. I had to learn the history of Canada, and I had to + make new friends by speaking a whole new language. All these different experiences began to feel like “Home” again- but how-? I thought about my “Home” back in Korea. How I felt happy not just with my family, but with my friends at school , too. So later on, I started to try new things here like baking pastries, and getting a pet dog. I now know more about what “Home” really is, because I learned that it’s not just about the building, but about the things you love. I realized that “Home” always came back to being with the ones I love, and a place where I can do what I love. After all, my “Home” has changed several times depending on the situations and timing. I am very excited to see how my “Home” will change in the future! Just remember that “Home” isn’t just a place, but “Home” is a thing that you will keep in your heart forever no matter where you are.
