Home is my Happy Place

Frightened, isolated and alone. That was how I felt sleeping away from the place I called, and still call, home. At my home I feel safe, relaxed and protected. However, I sometimes wonder what my life would be like without an amazing home. I was laying down on the floor of a church in a sleeping bag, trying to fall asleep. I was very scared as there were bars on the windows! I felt like there was no one else there, even though there were about 20 other people with me. That was my first experience sleeping away from home and my family; first of many sleepovers where I felt vulnerable. Home is filled with SO many great emotions like love and happiness, especially when you are with your family. When my family has game night on fridays it is always fun. Or when we have fancy dinner nights because we can’t go anywhere. Or when we just read a book as a family. Sometimes we have some arguments, like when my brothers and I cannot decide on what movie to watch. We somehow always end up agreeing in the end. As I said, sometimes I wonder what my life would be like without a home. Then, I think about those people who have a house but don’t have a home, a home that is safe, comfortable and speaks to them. When I think about people without a home, I think of poor people. I think of how they deserve a home, but just can’t afford one. Then I start thinking about Habitat, and how it helps these people to finally have a good home! That is why this contest is important to me. I want to donate to my community so everyone can feel at home, feel loved and where everyone can create memories.
