Meaning of Home

Meaning of home. By Chelsea Choi What home is to me is going to be much different than anyone else’s point of view. We all have different beliefs and experiences about what home means to us. I’ve dealt with a lot of life changes that made a real impact on my future. Those changes made me question, what is home? I always thought that I would have a mom and a dad living under one roof, grandparents who came to visit once and awhile, and my life would stay the same forever. Here’s the thing, everything changed. In one year, I lost my grandfather to cancer and my parents decided to split up. My whole life was about to change, and I no longer had a home. Home to me is not about the house or structure, it’s about the people who live inside my house that care for me that make it a home. No matter how many times I moved, I always thought I was moving away from home. I had to remind myself that my home will always be with me, and that’s family. Home could be anyone or anything, it’s how you interpret what home means to you. My home includes; all family members (no matter how far away they are), my dog, my friends, and my special memory items. My home is amazing. They all can cheer me up in different ways, especially when I'm upset, when I need support, and most importantly, they all give me so much love it’s impossible to escape it. There is no place I would rather be than with my family. There's a famous quote that I think means a lot about home, it's a quote from The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy said “there's no place like home”
