The Feeling of Home

A home is a place where you are yourself and your favorite snack is in the fridge. When I walk in the door after school I feel relieved. I smell the laundry on and even if it is not warm inside I feel warm. A lot of people do not have a home and it is not fair that so many people do not have a house, let alone a home. What makes me feel like I am at home is every year my family and my grandparents go to PEI in the summer and we rent the same cottage by the beach. We bring our bikes and me and my sister and I bike down to the beach. We play in the sand and then bike back. There’s a shortcut that we take and then we get back, drop our bikes and run inside and have supper. Home does not have to be a house with memories it can be a feeling. This year we are renting a different cottage but I will always have good memories like big knots in my hair from swimming all day and having to cut them out. The long drive there, running down the dirt road with my sister to see who wins and then having the same supper on the first day that we get there every year. To me going there is a big part of my memories. On Saturday mornings in the spring and summer me my mom dad and sister bike to downtown Dartmouth and get croissants. The church across the street has chalk so we draw, sit, relax and enjoy the summer day. Home is not only a house where you make memories. It is a feeling.
