Home is Where the Heart Is
Home to me is a place where my family and loved ones live. My home is so special because of the people that live in it-my parents and my sisters whom I love so much and my extended family when they visit. My home is a place of warmth, a place where love and harmony reigns.
Home to me is:
The smell and taste of my mother’s cooking;
The voice of my dad reading bedtime stories to me and my sisters;
The image of my aunty sewing our clothes;
The sight of fresh flowers and vegetables blossoming from our garden every spring;
The warm hugs and feeling of spending fun time with family.
Home to me is:
A place that gives me a sense of identity and belonging;
A place where I can call my own;
A place where my thoughts and feelings are validated;
A place where I can dream, play and have fun without being judged;
A basic human right.
Home determines my well-being and supports my emotional, physical and mental health. Every day that I spend in my home reminds me of how lucky I am.
Due to the nature of my dad’s work, my family has lived in four different cities in Canada. Everywhere we go, my parents simply brought along our family values into the new space (love, respect, kindness and honesty). These values are what make our house a home.
Homelessness is on the rise in my city. I am excited and motivated to participate in this write up because I want everyone to have a home (just like me) in order to be safe and protected. “That’s why “Home Is Where The Heart Is”.
