Home is Where the Heart Is
When I walk through those open doors of my home, I see my family with open arms. I feel safe and loved at my home. Some of the reasons why home is where the heart is, is that my family is a part of my home, staying at my grandmother’s house doesn’t feel the same like my home and where is the heart in a home.
My family is a part of my home because if my family didn’t live in my home it wouldn’t feel like a home it will just feel like a house. It’s my loving parents and brother that make it feel warm. Some of the things that my family and I do together are play board games, watch movies, eat dinner together as a family every chance we can and so much more. My family is always there for me when I need them and they are always supporting me. When I think of “home” the first thing that pops in my head is my family laughing, joking around and having a great time together. My family also keeps me safe when I am with them. When I am sad or upset my family always makes me feel better. That is why my family is a part of my home.
When I stay at my grandmother’s house in Windsor it doesn’t feel like a home because I am just visiting her for a week. My grandmother tries to make it feel like a home but it is not the same to me. I don’t have my own bed to sleep in and unlimited Wi-Fi to go on my device. I don’t feel comfortable going through her refrigerator or putting my feet up on her coffee table. It is sometimes hard to relax and be myself. At my grandmother’s house we make memories and it’s fun but it still doesn’t feel like a home. When I am at her house too long, I get homesick because when I go there it never feels like a home. That is why my grandmother’s house doesn’t feel like a home.
Most people ask ‘’Where is the heart in a home?’’ I believe that the heart in a home is the memories we make and the experiences we share. Some of the memories we make at home are when we watch movies together, playing Just Dance and Family Feud on Nintendo Switch as a family and saying prayers before we go to sleep. Other warm memories we make is when we talk about what we did during the day, celebrating birthdays together and when we have family and friends over to visit. Whenever my family and I do something special together, I feel like I can just feel the heart in my home.
Home isn’t just were we make memories and experiences; we grow up and learn about our family and who we are as people. That is what home means to me!
