What Home Means to Me
What Home Means To Me
As lightning cracks and it begins to pour
I run inside my home.
A warm place where I am safe and away from the cold.
I bundle up in a warm place.
The fire blazing and I look outside
I say to myself, I’m lucky to have a home
My mom says, “Sit down. dinner is ready.”
I sit down and eat
faster than I could blink dinner was over
I went to bed and rested my head
and again I said in my head I'm lucky to have a home
I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep
and I could hear the rain on the roof and the cracking of the lightning.
As I drift to sleep
but I can't stop thinking about the people on the street,
the people that don't have a home and don't have a warm meal
and the people that don't feel safe
the people on the street.
I fall asleep and dream that everything was good
and there were no people on the street in the cold.
