Home is not just a House
Home is not just a house
Arm to arm with my best friend,
Kindness soothes my soul.
Saving hockey pucks in the crease,
Excitement rushes through me.
Playing board games with my grandparents,
Love surrounds me.
Learning and challenges in my classroom,
Support awaits.
But when I arrive home after a long day,
The feeling of me opening the door to my house,
Nothing can compare.
Getting licks from my dog,
Cats brushing up against me,
Jumping on my warm cozy bed,
Or having a foaming bubble bath.
Everyone needs a house that feels like home.
To have a place to call their own,
To feel safe,
To have a cozy bed to sleep in,
To have a warm bath to bathe in,
To have a kitchen to eat in,
To have rooms to meet in.
Every morning you wake up
You leave your house
Knowing you can come home to your own.
A feeling inside
That you can’t resist.
A building with walls and frames
Is the beginning to
Creating a home,
Where there’s excitement and fun
Love and support.
Without a roof above
There is no place for love.
Without these walls and beams, challenges await.
A house becomes a home
Once the foundation is set
A family can now call it their own.
My wish for all is a home,
A house they can call their own.
Habitat for Humanity provides the support,
The walls, the beams, the foundation, and floors.
Ten dollars from my poem is only the start,
I hold hope in my heart
That all thoughts will come together
so we can make a house
Someone can call their home.
