Home is a Feeling

Home is a word that can have multiple meanings. Its definition depends on who you ask. For some, home is the structure or a group of physical possessions, but for me home isn’t just physical objects, it’s the feelings and sensations too. It’s a place where I can recenter and be myself. I can laugh, cry, or smile freely. I feel safe, welcomed, and wanted. Home is the smell of dinner wafting through the air. It’s walking through my home and being filled with memories new and old. Spending time with family and connecting, going on bike rides, and singing along to songs on the radio. The familiar sounds of home never fail to calm me. Like, the faint sounds of my brother playing, the scratching of my sister's pencil as she does homework, and the clatter of dishes in the kitchen. Home is like a big, comfy bed to fall into after a long and exhausting day at school. It’s a place to let go of all the stress the day has brought me. A place to feel at peace. Home is a safe, comforting, and familiar sanctuary. It’s filled with love, joy, and respect. Home is sinking into your bed at night and feeling safe and protected. Home is always having someone there to talk to in the ups and downs. It’s feeling like I’m everyone's equal and knowing my opinions are heard and valued. It’s a place where I can go and always feel supported. But most of all home is wherever my family is.
