A Walk Through Home

Home is special. When you walk through your home door and the smell of cookies or your favourite dinner just wafts through the air, don’t you feel safe or happy? Let’s dive deeper into why home is wonderful at times. We’ll start with the dining room. The dining room is a place where you share stories of your day with your family as you eat the food that fills your mouth with joy and happiness as you think about how lucky you are to have these things. The smell of the food comes to your face and hits you like a gentle flower; your nose sucks it up and your brain senses happiness. The kitchen is where you wash the dishes and help with the food. But it’s also a place where you make memories and learn new recipes, experiment with different things that make delicious meals that you and your family will enjoy. Even if it fails, you tried your hardest, and homes aren’t always perfect. You make mistakes and fail at some things, but you're not perfect, and your home suits you just like that. It reminds you that your failures aren’t permanent; there is something that you tried at and didn’t do right yet, but you can always try again, and those mistakes make you, you. My bedroom is my kingdom, and I’m the queen. My bed is the palace, and my desk and chair is the throne room. It reminds me that I’m important because home makes you remember that if you ever doubt yourself. Even if you feel left out at school, at home you are always important. Everyone is important. The living room is where we have fun and discuss things, important or about our day, and that’s where I feel nice and peaceful. Home makes me feel peaceful. It’s not the furniture that makes me feel peaceful; it’s home itself. Home is almost more of a feeling than a structure of walls and a roof. That’s why I thank Habitat for Humanity for making homes for people in need of homes, for giving them a chance to feel those feelings: peaceful, cared for, happy, respected, loved, and belonging. Now they can be at home.
