What I Call Home
For me, home isn’t a place you can just search up on a map it is something more quiet, more safe. Home is when you come back from a hard day and you just feel calm, when you close the door you stop feeling overwhelmed.
Home is a memory that will forever stay with you no matter what. It’s laughter that is always there with your loved ones. It’s a place that arguments have been but have been solved and made up with. Sometimes, home is a person who you feel comfortable with, who you feel safe with.
Home is somewhere where you just feel you, and where you are welcomed. Home is where you aren’t judged. You are you and always will be in your home. You aren’t afraid of being judged or hurt because you are safe and always will be.
Home is where my family is and we have the best memories together. It’s a place where I feel happy and calm. When I had a hard day at school or had a fight with my friends or relatives, when I walk through the door into my home it all disappears. It’s where I am just loved, and appreciated for being me not someone others want me to be.
Home protects me from bad thoughts and being hurt. When I think of home, I think of love, laughter, safeness and the feeling of being a part of a family with a safe environment. Home is a safe, loving place extending far beyond physical walls and a roof.
Home is my favourite place, the beginning and end of a day. Home is my space, each picture has a memory in it and each room has had a different job: A living room for a game or movie night, a dining room for family dinners and a bedroom to sleep in. Each of these rooms has had a memory in it whether it is the memory of sharing what happened in your day at the dinner table to being sung a song to sleep.
It has never been described as a house but always home. Home is where you grow and love, it’s a reassuring space, it’s where you are truly yourself. Home isn't just walls or the key to the front door and not the roof that keeps out rain. It’s a familiar space you’ll never forget. The air brings back memories, memories that I'll forever cherish.
Home is where my heart is. It’s where I can be free. Accepted without judgement. It’s the place where I don’t JUST feel safe, but secure. It’s somewhere I genuinely feel loved and cared for. Just the thought of home makes me feel calm.
So, home isn’t just a building but it’s where I belong, where I am cherished and most importantly, where I am loved.
