Escape Plan

"Begrüßen" means welcome in German. My name is Blythe and I'm here to share my story of moving to Canada from Germany many years ago. This story starts in Germany 1000 and more years ago. My ancestors lived in a small hut, back when Germany was called "East Francia." It was all going well but over a course of time it became more and more dangerous. My ancestors knew they would not be accepted into North America because our last name was too German to be American. My ancestors had to plan and wait... and plan... and wait some more, for decades, until a boat could take them over to North America. Today, it takes a shorter amount of time but back then it took 14-18 weeks to get to North America but they still knew that they will not be accepted. Back then, immigrants weren’t always welcome. If they weren’t there for slavery, the guards and soldiers couldn't care less why they were there unless they were serving the country. They knew what they had to do. A fun fact is that my last name used to be Gϋrskï and now it’s Gorsky. It changed a lot because we had to leave our home to be able to make a family in a safe environment where there were no threats or wars. The point is that I grew up happy and healthy even if I wasn’t raised in my hometown. This means that home to me is where your family is. The fun part is that my family is planning to go back to Germany after centuries of being away, it means that no matter how far away you are from your ancestral hometown, it’s still apart of you even after centuries. bye.
