Home Is A Safe Space
Home is a safe space for me. My room feels like home because it is nice and comfortable. When I get home from school I lay in my bed with a puffy blanket and watch TV. I like watching the Kalogeras sisters and Salish on Youtube because they are funny. My cat Charlie lays with me in bed while watching TV. Downstairs I can hear my baby sister watching Ms. Rachel and playing with toys with my mom. In the bedroom next to me, my little brother is playing with his cars or watching a show on his tablet. Sometimes I hear my brother laugh and say “you’re funny Nana” and she replies, “No, you’re funny”. It feels good. I get excited when I know my mom is chopping up the vegetables in the kitchen while my Nana is cooking the noodles and sauce because they are making my favourite meal which is chicken fettuccine alfredo. If it’s a special occasion, like Christmas or Easter, or if my brother and I randomly ask, they bake desserts, like sugar cookies, which I drizzle icing on. After my siblings go to bed, especially my brother who is too hyper, my mom and my Nana help me with my reading homework. I need practice with my reading because I struggle to read. I feel really lucky to have people in my home who love and care for me. This is the meaning of home.
