Home is the Ice Rink
I consider home as the ice rink because when I'm the skater’s room, it’s like a big family full of sisters and brothers. Everybody treats each other equally. When someone feels sad, their best friend will comfort each other. Even if you're not best friends with somebody, you still feel like a big family.
When someone has a snack, they share it. When we have an hour break between training, we would go to Honolulu Cafe or COBs together like a big family. But when someone is sick, everyone gets worried.
I had experiences before. I have pneumonia so I couldn’t skate until I fully recover. So, I had to miss a week of training! But lucky that went by real fast. So next Tuesday, I went back to skating! When I opened the door to the skater’s room, my best friend Rinako didn’t know it was me, so she just casually said,” hi”. But when she saw my face, she was so happy! It's like reuniting with your really close with. But it mostly feels like I’m back to the place I belong. Home. Even my other friends were super exited to see me!
That was just one of my stories. My friends have even more. My coaches are like my second parents; the ice rink is like my second home. Even though we don’t have many pictures on the walls, we still hold a lot of memories that we can never forget. Funny moments, and sad moments. But we will always go through the adventures together. As a family. We are not family by blood, but by heart.
So I think It doesn't matter where you live. It’s where you feel welcomed, included, safe, and comfortable sharing your thoughts. That’s what home means. Where you those things.
