The Meaning of Home

Home is a small word that carries such an enormous meaning. Home is a place to rest my head, but more importantly it’s the feelings of love, joy, pride, comfort and hope. Home is a pocket of safety that shelters me from the world on difficult days. When I was small, I thought that home was a structure, a synonym for house. I now know that home is much more than a building. Home is love in it’s purest form, creativity at it’s highest point, and waves of happiness that wash over me. Home is the place where I am free to joke and laugh. It’s where I read fantastic books in front of crackling fires, curled up with a soft, woolen blanket around my shoulders. Home means amazing memories with my family, years of scribbles on the walls, and a decade of learning, improving and growing. Home looks like me sprawling, listening to the creeks and groans of the house. Home feels like soft carpeting under my feet and smells like delicious wafts of home cooked meals that find their way up from the kitchen to my bedroom. These are the things that come to mind when someone says “ home”.
