The Meaning of Home

When I hear the word “home,” I don’t just think about a building. A house has walls and a roof, but home is more than that. Home is a feeling. It is the place where I feel safe and loved. Home is where my family is. It is where we eat together, talk together, and laugh together. If I have a bad day, home makes me feel better. If I have a good day, I share it at home. At home, I can be myself. I don’t have to pretend. I live in Canada with my mom and dad. We are a family of three. Every night we eat dinner and talk about our day. Sometimes we watch a movie or play a game. These small moments are my favorite. My cousin Selena lives close to us. She is my neighbor. I play with her a lot. We ride our bikes, draw pictures, and play outside. I feel lucky that she lives near my home. I have my own room. It is my special place. I read books there and sometimes just relax. My dad helps me with math at home. Sometimes math is hard, but he explains it in a simple way. When I understand, I feel proud and happy. In our home, we help each other. We are a team. I take the garbage outside to the big bin. Sometimes I vacuum the floor. I clean my room and put my toys away. Helping makes me feel responsible. We also celebrate birthdays and holidays at home. We decorate and eat special food. These are the memories I will always remember. I know that not every child has a safe home. That makes me feel thankful for mine. I hope every family can have a home where they feel safe, loved, and happy. For me, home means love, family, and feeling safe. Home is my favorite place in the whole world.
