All Year Round

Trees crystalline time in a deep sleep silent sleep. Frosted face because of winter’s frozen kiss. Knee height snow that crawls into my socks. Snow fortress manufactured to survive the winter wars. Heat from hot chocolate chases the cold out of my chest. Start of new life and new year. Rain boots rejoice as winter boots are being benched. Green fingers of grass poke through surviving snow and - mud pockets. Waking early to a gray heavy blanket, sun shines through as - my parents sang happy birthday to me. Breaking the schedule of 180 days of school and embracing - waking late every day. Trade heavy parka for light breeze creating nutmegs, memories, - hearing swish from the three-point line. I arise to the surprise of vacation the world awaits. Golden leaves drift as trees prepares for crystalline sleep. The harvest is heavy the crops have served us well. Travelers gather to witness the glow of Canada’s amber backyard. The leisure of summer fades as the journey resets and the early waking - routine smiles at me with its ugly head.
