Home is my Fantasy

My house is a castle sheltering my family and I from cold weather. My home is a shield protecting me from the danger and harsh circumstances also known as the “real world”. Home is the feel of a new adventure. A new thing sending shivers down my spine. That makes my mind a stronger warrior than my body. Sometimes anxiety wraps around my stomach like vines. It's better drawing a sword through it, than letting it swallow me whole. In my kitchen of magic, me and my mom are stirring up a potion. A potion of cookie dough. A soothing smell as smooth as butter flows through my kitchen and reaches the ceiling. A familiar scent. I can smell the vanilla extract as I'm prepping the batter. The fierce bark of my Bernadoodle sounds like the fiery breath of a dragon. She waits for treats in her dog bed. At dusk, I am ready to face my sister in a battle for the ice cream bars. Instead of racing or running I get the sad honor of getting the ice cream bars for both of us. Home is that sweet taste of that bar. The realization that it makes my stomach hurt and I probably shouldn't be eating it.. Home is the magical stroke of a paint brush. My sister creates scenes and people through an empty canvas, slowly getting full of color and life. A lot like us slowly finding out who we are. Home might not be the perfect palace with pixies and fairies but it is my safe place. The shield protecting me was always my family, and they will always be my safe place. To tame a wild dragon that was always my dog, is Home.
