The Place I Call Home

A house is a structure but a home means something different. To me, a home is where I feel loved and safe. It’s where I cherish the wonderful moments that I spend with my family. My home is where all the memories are held and where they take place in my heart. Let me share with you a couple of ideas of what home means to me. Home means my family pictures on the wall that I see everyday. Home means the seasoned smell from my mom’s African soup. Home means the voice of my mom asking me how my day was. Home means the laughter of my sister and mom when she’s off work. Home means the welcoming hug from my mom and dad when they pick me and my brother up from the bus. Home means the sound of my parents and siblings saying goodnight to me at bedtime. When my mom serves my family their food, it’s a plate full of love and care within the dish. My mom makes a lot of delicious meals like parmesan chicken with coconut fried rice and her favorite soups too. My sister also makes yummy pancakes on Sunday mornings and my dad makes jerk chicken too. Birthdays are always celebrated in my family and the thing is.. It’s always a different cake. From my previous birthdays, I remember the birthday cake my mom baked that tasted so sweet and flavorful. Birthdays in my family are happy and joyful. We take so many pictures and laugh together. Home means something different to everyone. It’s where I feel safe, loved, and cared for. I enjoy home cooked meals and spending time with my family. Everyone needs a place that’s meaningful to them, to me, it’s my home.
