Home Is the Best Place There Can Be
In my bedroom I sit on my bed and read after a long, hard day at school. In there, my feelings can be let out as much as I like. My bedroom is MY safe adult, listening quietly while I rant angrily. I go in there after sports, school, or anything that I need a break from. In there I smell my freshly washed sheets. I see all the memories even if they aren’t visible. I taste the secret snacks that I have hidden in my bedroom. I feel anger and sadness and joy from all the years gone by. I hear my music playing when I need to give my mind a break.
The living room is the heart of my home. My family and I sit on the cozy, comfy couch as we watch a movie and eat popcorn together. Games and family memories for most families are told and played in the dining room, but not mine. We play board games and video games in that amazing room. Sometimes me, my sisters, and my mom just sit on the couch and read books. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, it’s the fact that we’re together that makes those times special.
Every evening the dining room is filled with the savoury aromas of my mom’s homemade dinners. Sometimes she’ll let me help cook. It’s so fun as I feel the oven’s warmth and hear my mom’s voice laughing. Learning my family’s versions of meals brings me and my mom closer together. Chili, pork, soup, and pasta, all the things that I enjoy eating.
The basement is my stage at home. Practicing lines, actions, and working on costume ideas makes the theatre come to life for me. The plays that I put on with my sisters for my mom are so hilarious that instead of preforming them, we laugh instead. Sometimes even my mom adds her voice to ours by asking silly questions. We even do it for our nanny who laughs and gasps at the perfect moments.
These feelings are what happens when you live in a home, not a house. You can practically see the love and joy moving around freely. I love my home because of the memories and emotions that I remember and feel. I love it because my family is there with me, reminding me to keep on going. There with me are my mom, my sisters, my cat and dogs and everything I love. A home can be a hug, a play place, or whatever else your imagination brings.
