The Meaning Of Home In The Five Senses
Home. Well doesn’t everyone have a home? The answer to that is: No. Most people don’t have a home due to the rising prices. But that doesn’t mean everyone does not deserve a home. Everyone needs one. Not just me and you. Not just anyone. Everyone.
If home were a sight it would be my sister playing with her dollhouse and trying on new outfits. It would be eating freshly cooked food and fighting for the new pants mom just got from Lululemon. It would be me and my dad sitting on the couch tracking moms way back home. If home were a sight it would be hugs and kisses with my parents.
If home were a sound, it would be munching on the new cracker and cream cheese sandwiches that I just made! It would be the news on the T.V talking about how 3 were killed in a crash yesterday. If home were a sound it would be shouts and laughs about the time when our aunt tripped and fell into the ocean at the beach! It would be stomps and claps when we are dancing. It would be loud snores at night that don’t let me fall asleep.
If home were a smell it would be the sweet smell of Nutella on almost burned toast! It would be the smell of nature when I step outside on the balcony in summer when the sun is shining. If home were a smell it would be colourful vegetables with a side of fruit, bread with peanut butter and a protein bar. It would be the smell of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser doing his soapy business! It would be flowers and plants outside in the spring that finally started growing.
If home were a touch it would feel like metal on the bottom of my tap shoes. It would be the sharp ends on the rake that I use in fall. If home were a touch it would be the soft feeling of my teddy bear in my room. It would be hot cookies being passed around the room ready to eat. It would be my fluffy blanket wrapped around me on a cold winter night.
If home were a taste it would be fresh steamed veggies off the stove. It would be warm hot chocolate on a winter day. If home were a taste it would be the bubblegum flavor of the Tylenol I eat when I am sick. It would be a peanut butter, jelly sandwich ready for me when I come back from school. It would be rice and kidney beans for dinner at 8:00pm!
I am glad to be under a roof and to live with my family. I am glad to come back to healthy food and a comfortable bed. I am thankful for Habitat for Humanity and their business of giving homes just like mine to others in need. I am more than happy to create a happy life with memories under my most precious: HOME.
