The Meaning of Home

Home isn’t a place you should feel in danger. Home is a place you should feel loved, safe, and comfortable. Some people don’t feel that way in their home, and I feel bad for them and I hope it gets better for them. If home was the 5 senses, this is what it would be for me. If home was a sight, it would look like a beautiful beach, with the sun slowly going down. The sky would look like a stunning orange, fading to pink with breath-taking clouds. There would be rows of comfortable beach chairs shaded by umbrellas. If home was a smell, it would be the scent of all the flowers my mom used to grow, with a hint of the strawberries me and my brothers planted in our backyard together. At night, smelling like the old Commodore computers my dad likes to play with with my brother. If home was a sound, it would be the sound of my mom mixing cookie dough with me. Laughing and eating some of it together. The loud sound of the mixer in the background. If home was a taste, it would taste like my moms Dutch pancakes with bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream. The whipped cream gave me a silly moustache and my family and I laughed about it. The pancakes are still warm and soft, the way a pancake should be. If home were a touch it would feel like a soft, warm, and fuzzy blanket. The blanket I always sit under while drinking cinnamon tea and eating ice cream. The feeling of the pages of my book as I flip through it. I am grateful for my parents giving me a house to live in, clothes to wear, and food to eat. Not just that but so much more too! I'm very grateful to have parents who love me and support me no matter what. Habitat for Humanity has helped many people build a home for an affordable price, and the only thing you have to do is help build it! It may take a while, but you will eventually have a home just like mine, and for an affordable price! That’s what my home would be if it were the 5 senses, again, I am extremely grateful for the home I live in and the parents that I have. Another thanks to Habitat for Humanity for helping people build an affordable home. Thank you.
