Home is More Than Four Walls

From the sidewalk, you might just see a simple box made of bricks and glass. But the moment I step inside, the "house" disappears and my home begins. A house is just a project made of wood and nails, but a home is a special place filled with peace and blessings. A home is not defined by the paint on the walls or the furniture. Rather, it is a feeling of being safe and happy. It is the beautiful, steady sound of my mother reciting the Quran in the morning, which makes the house feel calm. It is the yummy smell of spices that fills the air when she or dad is cooking. When I hear her voice and smell the food, I know I’m exactly where I belong. My dad, always there to play games. I wouldn't feel as brave as I am now if he weren't there. One of my favorite parts in our home is the soft carpet where my family gathers to pray. When we stand together, the world outside feels very far away. In those moments, I am reminded that my home is a place of love and kindness. It is a place where I can truly be myself, whether I am laughing with my siblings or sitting quietly with a book. A house is important because it keeps the rain and wind away. But a home is even more important because it protects our hearts. It is where I learn to be thankful for everything I have, from my cozy bed to the family that supports me. Habitat for Humanity builds strong walls that people need, but it’s the faith and family inside that turn walls into a home. My house is made of stone and wood, but my home is built on love.
