Walls that Remember

Home is the shelter that keeps the cold at bay, whether it rises like a grand mansion or fits into the quiet corners of an apartment. It could be where the sound of laughter echoes, or where walls are filled with past memories and achievements. I like to imagine a tiny bird’s nest, perched upon a branch and made with sticks. It isn’t very grand, and the wind blows above the tiny bird, yet it is still a place of comfort. Soon, the bird would search for longer days, but come back soon with a small family, bringing life back to the fragile abode. The bird wouldn’t require a mansion of sorts, just a place to live and protect its family, and in the same way, you may not need a mansion, with humongous balconies and swimming pools. You would just need a place to feel loved, and a place where every meal feels like it’s from a gourmet restaurant. I like to think of my home as a chaotic nest full of a variety of personalities. My grandfather would be waiting for me on the stairs when I come home from school, his eyes twinkling a tiny glimmer each time he sees me. My mom would come shortly after, giving me my favorite snacks with the brightest smile. My dad would come home and immediately make some tea or coffee, filling the whole house with a soothing aroma, and reminding me that we are always together. Not every day is perfect; we all have our ups and downs, yet one thing is for certain. Without them, my home would feel incomplete. Home is where my personality is built, where I laugh and cry my heart out, and where I belong.
