Home

For me, home is a happy place where I can express and share my ideas and feelings with my parents and my siblings. It is a place I feel safe. My room is my space, a space I get to sleep in, live in and decorate however I like. Over winter break, I travelled to India where I saw different kinds of homes. As we walked through an alley towards the Taj Mahal, I got to see how kids my age live and I got to look into their homes. Their homes had little stores in front of them and they lived behind the stores. They had little mattresses to sleep on and a small cooking space. When I looked into their homes I realized how much I have, and how lucky I am. But I also noticed that they were happy. They were playing cricket in front of their homes with their friends, and there were cows walking around. The kids were barefoot and smiling. I realized that you can be happy in many different homes, big or small, fancy or poor. The community there was strong and families seemed close to each other. It taught me that home is a place that gives you joy and happiness with your family.
