Home

Home. The place that is there for me, whether near or far, Will always be waiting after a long drive in the car. The door is open, the white light I see– My mom is in the doorway, a hot mug for me. The air is quiet; peaceful, and the living room sofa is snug, My home surrounds me in a warm and loving hug. Whenever I feel that I may never be bold, My home will be there for me, a guardian in the cold. A shelter from a storm or a shield from a glare, My home is a place that takes stress out of thin air— For my home is a lighthouse that can guide me through the waves, A haven of love that every heart craves. Coming back home after a long dreary day, My home is a place that can suck shadows away; Through pasta, through pizza and Korean foods, The kitchen turns sadness into bright and cheery moods. The steam from a bowl on a late Tuesday night, Or the laughter of my sister during a tickle fight, Always turns my spirits from dreary to light. My sister and mother, my father and me– We have this for granted, but this shouldn’t be! Every family deserves a safe and loving home, With memories, forever bonds, no more need to roam. By sharing this poem I join in the cause, To create a world where a child’s dreams will never pause. For the one thing that brings us all together, Can be said in one word: Home.
