What home means to me

Many people commonly say that “home is any four walls that enclose the right person.” I honestly don’t agree. Yes, I live in at least four walls that box me up but no, home should be a place where you feel safe or where you can be yourself. Think about it like this, monkeys sleep high up in trees, they practically live there. Yet, even though they don’t live in an enclosed house with doors or locks, they feel safe enough to sleep and spend most of their time there. Following this logic, places like school and other places you spend a lot of time in feel like home to most people. A lot of people feel they belong and feel safe at school, so technically school is a home even though many people including me don’t always like it. A home just has to be safe, it can be small or non-existent or giant but you just have to feel like yourself. Yet, the most important part is spending time with people you love and care about at your home, doing this makes home feel more special. So that's why when you move you feel kind of sad since usually at home you spend a lot of time there with someone you care about and leaving makes you feel bad. That’s why instead I believe about “home is where the heart is” (which is actually more common to be said). Home is about having fun with friends and family, making memories with them and taking care of yourself. Home is where I can lazily lie in bed comfortably after a long day at school and tell my parents about all the catastrophes at recess or the upcoming exam which has me going insane. Home is where the heart is.
