The Difference of a Home

It’s hard to think about the people who don’t have homes They are probably sad and alone It’s not fair But there is one way to show that we care Just to write a poem or an essay Somewhere to stay elsewhere So they can have a new doorway and hallway Somewhere to sleep, so it’s not unfair Building a house Is building a home For someone you might not know But their smiles still grow A home is memories Full of love and hope Flowing with courage Filled with moments That can mean everything A home feels warm Like the outside sun It feels safe and true And smiles grew In a house you see furniture Nothing really special But in a home you see love and support That’s how they are different It just might take a closer look In a house you smell paint and dust Maybe even some rust But a home doesn’t have that It doesn’t at all It’s more than a couple of bricks and a wall In a home you feel kindness and glee It’s a lot different than a house can be You feel joy and laughter And a house? Well, it’s missing that factor We can make a change for them Give them happiness and joy Show the home that has become Just for them in the sun When you know you’re in a home You know the doors, the rooms You recognize the pictures on the wall That’s the difference between a house and a home It’s a home for all
