My HOME, When I’m Not in My Apartment!

A home for me isn’t just my apartment in the big city. I’m excited when the summer comes because that means that I go to my more meaningful home in my grandma’s house in her small town. I feel at home when I see Gillam on the train. When I’m on the train, I see my five cousins waiting for me to get off the train. When I get off the train, I hug my cousins. I walk with my grandpa around town and then we see if any things have changed. When I go home, I see my old cat Shadow in my old room. Sometimes she is hard to see when I go to sleep because she blends into my shadowy blanket. I am home when I walk into the living room, and I smell my special blanket that is covered in my sister’s perfume. I smell my Granny’s coconut lotion and peanut butter cookies she baked for me with love. I am home when I go to one of my favorite fishing spots which is like a beach. I go in the water with my cousins and our big fishing rods and our expensive fifty-dollar bait. It is good bait because we catch big fish. Then we fry them right on the beach. We sometimes go to the beach, and I see my old friends. I feel at home in Gillam, because it is like a community. It is small and everyone knows each other. We treat each other with respect by being good to each other, honest and sharing things. I am home when I ride my cousin’s four-wheeler. My dad always takes us to the “fun” spots that are rough and have high hills. My mom worries that we will get hurt. I am home when my grandpa takes me hunting. He teaches me to hunt so I can teach the next generation when I have my own kids. I know I will be home when I am back together with my family and friends. Gillam is my home away from my apartment.
