Meaning of Home

My meaning of home changed so much in a short time. Home could be a place where you feel good and safe because you were born there. When you move from your old house, you feel different because you have lived all your life there. When I moved to Winnipeg, to my new house, I was sometimes bored and sad. I often dreamed that I am still at my old house in Ukraine. The first moment when I saw my new house, I felt weird because this house looked like my old house, but it felt different and strange. Even though I had my own room like I had back in Ukraine, I didn’t know anybody here to invite to my room to have sleep overs and hang out. I was mad at my parents because we moved, and I didn’t understand that we needed to move, which was hard for me. Soon I started school, and I met new friends. I still remember when I played hide and seek with my friends at my old house, and now I have new friends who like to play tag. My new home will always be different than my old home, but it feels good and has become my new “comfy place”. My old home will always make me feel like I belong there more. I hope to go back to my old home one day because I really miss it and I still remember every good thing that happened there. Habitat for humanity helps families who moved from different countries find homes that their “comfy place” and make new memories without ever forgetting their old home.
