The Meaning of Home

Home doesn’t have to be a house. Home is where you find comfort and happiness, it’s where you share laughter with others. Home is a place you can feel safe, it is a place where you can have a break from the rest of the world. Home can be filled with lots of beautiful memories, or be a place that is just waiting to be filled with warmth and become a true home. For me, home is where I find peace in the arms of my mother, it’s where I feel accepted, it’s where all the sibling rivalry happens, it’s where I can feel all my worries wash away. Other than the furniture and all the other necessities, my home is filled with 7 years of memories that I would have to die to forget. Other than all the memories in the past, my present home is normally filled with the sizzling sound of my mother’s cooking, the sound of my brother playing video games in the basement, which I can all hear–but try to ignore–from my spot on the couch. For me, other than being filled with beautiful memories, the most important part of a home is being a place of comfort and relief from a long day, being able to see the people whom you have unconditional love for, and being able to truly feel “at home”.
