Meaning of Home

When you picture home, what do you see? Maybe you see your kitchen, your furniture or maybe you see your backyard and your porch. When I picture home, I think of three things family, safety and memoires. These three things can mean something different for everyone. Let me tell you what they mean to me. Firstly, family. If I didn’t have my family in my home, it would feel more like a house. Sure, it would look the same it would probably be even quieter, but the feeling of family would be missing. What is the feeling of family? It’s the feeling of love, warmth, comfort, fun, belonging, I could go on forever. Family may be my favourite part of my home. Coming home to my mom, dad, sister and cat is an amazing feeling I can’t even describe. Secondly, we all know home is a safe place, but let’s talk about why its safe. To me home is a safe place because I can relax and not worry about what people think about me. I can wear whatever I want without feeling like people are judging me. My favourite room in my house is my bedroom, it truly feels like my personality is scattered all over the walls. It’s the one part of my house that feels like a part of me. You could definitely say my room is my safe place. Thirdly, memoires are a huge part of my home. Whether their sad, happy or a little weird, they help me remember all the great times me and my family have been through together. My favourite memory in my home is when my family and I watched a movie together. We had so much fun and couldn’t stop laughing, even my cat looked happy. Yes, memoires can happen outside of home, but my favourite memoires are definitely the ones I made in my home. In conclusion, I talked about the three things my home is made of, family, safety and memoires. By talking about these things, I hope you now understand how crazy it is that some people aren’t able to experience the feeling of having a home. Fortunately, Habitat for Humanity helps build homes so homeless people can have a house to call home too.
