My Home, My Sanctuary

“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it” - George Moore A home is not just a structure with four walls and a roof, but it is built on a foundation of love. When I think about my home, I think about love, happiness and a place where I can be myself. The word “home” evokes memories of mom’s freshly baked cookies, laughter filled backyard tents under the stars and water balloon fights with my sister. I have learnt etiquettes and values at home. Home is where I celebrate birthdays, achievements and festivals. Home is a place where I can make mistakes and be silly without being judged. Home is where I find solace during difficult times like when my grandparents passed away. When the entire world was under the threat of the pandemic, my home is the only place I felt safe. I feel very grateful to live in my own home. It is important to acknowledge that everyone does not have the access to a safe home. My heart bleeds when I see families that don’t have a roof over their heads. The wars that we are currently facing in the world, have made many people homeless. While many people are deprived of the basic fundamental right of having a home, I am extremely grateful to Habitat for Humanity for undertaking the noble initiative of building shelters for those in need. It’s not an ordinary task, but all the selfless volunteers have shown how wonders can be achieved if you have the right intentions in mind. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity and I salute the volunteers for undertaking this initiative, thus giving me an opportunity to share my views.
