Home in my heart

Home means the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household according to an oxford dictionary. Most people say it’s where your heart is, but home for me might sound overcomplicated. Home could be Nigeria because I'm told multiple times of my mom and dad’s life growing up there. I’m also told of my nana’s 50 or less years spent there. Or the fact that it’s my cultural home, but I’ve never been to Nigeria. It could be the UK because of the 5-6 years that I spent growing up there but no there isn’t any of my culture there. Maybe it’s Canada as I was born there but It's no good when it comes to my neighbourhood as there aren’t any black people like me. Which is why I think my home is partly Nigeria because it is my culture. My home is partly the Uk because I grew up there. Home is partly Canada, but I mostly think it’s where my mom’s cooking comes with the sizzling of the pan, the beep of the oven and the heating of the microwave . Cooking our cultural food and trying new ones is something we all enjoy. Home is where I laugh as I run up and down the house with my brother chasing each other. Where sibling fights and arguments are later aligned with love. Home is where everything falls into place as the hardest questions gain the simplest answers. Home is where I will always have reason to smile as in my home we share our emotions . Home is a place where every once in a while we will gather around our table and eat at celebrations or important events. It is where my culture is most respected. Home is where we don’t need pictures to capture memories of our traditions and special times as they are remembered as if they were the day before. Home is a place that everyone knows and loves. Home is like a huge blanket keeping you and your loved ones warm on even the coldest of days, the jokes and stories told by my family keep me warm. Home is a place where love and friendship is strong because locked doors and anger aren't accepted into any of our homes. Home is where the sound of driving cars or our neighbours dog barking can be heard. Home is where when I take a walk I hear the chirping of birds. Home is where my family is. Home is where my heart is and my heart is with my home. I love my community and the neighbourhood as well. That is where my heart is and those words ring in my ears like a bell. ❣️ THANK YOU HABITAT FOR HOME!
