A shower of confetti

I believe it is not a place but a feeling where home can be found. For me Home is the smell of my mom’s fresh bread and buttery chocolate pastries cooking in the oven so I pour a glass of fresh milk in a cup on a Saturday morning to go with it. After digesting I asked my dad,’’hey dad can we go to Dal to get some shots up!?’’ Let's go, I repeat after ‘sure pack your bag!’ I rush downstairs, get my bag, pack my shoes, shove my ball and grab a pair of swim trunks and a towel. As I SLAM the car door shut I crank up the heated seats and play my pregame playlist. Once we get through the sliding doors a cool breeze refreshes me, my dad says to the employee ‘just going to shoot hoops’ then swipes our passes and walks through those spinny things. Plugged ears through those other spiny doors and then… the squeaking of the shoes on the court music to my ears i unzip my bag then take out my kds slip on my leg sleeve and tie my shoes not enough, not too tight, but just right, squeak them on the floor then take out my ball then start bouncing it, ahhhh now for me that's the most home can get. THE COURT. I start off slow with a few crossovers then add in a couple between the legs, behind the back, then another one in ‘n out then i get flashy with a combo, tween, cross, in ‘n out, ‘NOW WE'RE TALKING’ shot up!, then falls down right into the mesh ‘SWISH’ I say. After hours of ‘SWISH’ my legs ache and my palms and forehead dripping with sweat, me and dad lock eyes and know 100% what each other are thinking. CANON BALLLLLLLL! He drenched me head to toe in pool water, impressed I followed with my cannon ball, his making making mine look mini. I hop out to strap on my goggles then dive into the deep end, swimming isn't my #1 sport so I usually just like to swim for fun. Once i go there and back a few times i take off my goggles to crank it up another level and go on the diving board, the tall one, at first sight not that intimidating but when your on it it's like jumping off a skyscraper with a whole nest of butterflies deep inside your gut, but i know that once takeoff is present there's no going back. I take a deep breath then one step closer to the edge, I leap off then seconds later hit the water with such force I could explode! On the drive home me and my dad share laughs over who did the bigger cannon ball or the quicker spin move, in the end everyone can be good at things they just might not be the same as the other but home is passion about things and activities we enjoy participating or it can be a place that you feel safe, cozy, loved, and excited to try new things. In my opinion, everyone deserves a home with all of those things and countless etceteras. They build up the foundation of a perfect home for all which is why we have passion, love, forgiveness and strength for hobbies because we feel like that is our home and why we are determined to make it the biggest, sturdiest and most beautiful home. Everyone should have a home no matter which situation, problem people are forced to face and experience whether it’s poverty, insecurity, exclusion, racism etc. Human beings most definitely deserve love to cover them like there in a shower of confetti. And let's express gratitude for the privileges gifted upon us by our loved ones and family. They offer these rare privileges that everyone deserves, yet only a limited amount seems available. This leaves countless children waiting for these gifts, which unfortunately remain out of reach due to their difficulties and the shortage of opportunities and gifts. This is why I, Max, firmly believe that everyone deserves a safe HOME.
